Interactive Video Masterclass for Acoustic Guitar
Some people say a great song is a marriage between the lyrics and the melody, but the groove plays a huge role in many of our favorite records as well. Hitmakers like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Chuck Berry, Chet Atkins, Paul Simon, Mark Knopfler and many other great songwriters are not only masterful lyricists. They also have a propensity for building catchy guitar grooves – hooks that propel the vocal and draw the listeners ear into the arrangement.
Gareth Pearson designed the Acoustic Groove Collective, featuring 15 acoustic grooves, to evoke the guitar stylings of some of popular music’s most gifted and prolific songwriters. By playing your way through these performance studies, and working through the breakdowns, you’ll be building a vocabulary of compositional approaches to build more compelling acoustic guitar grooves for your own songs and compositions.
”We’ll look at a handful of minimalist, “vocal-forward” approaches used by singer songwriters such as Paul Simon and Jerry Jeff Walker, bouncy grooves like those featured by writers like Bobby Gentry and Bill Withers, and open string lines and open tunings as utilized by Joni Mitchell and John Martyn.
We’ll also tackle rock-oriented groove players like Lindsay Buckingham and Mark Knopfler, a country rooted guitar grooves of songwriters like Dolly Parton and Chet Atkins, and modern, pop-production approaches used by players like John Mayer and Ed Sheeran.”
Gareth will first present a performance study and then break it down emphasizing the key concepts, approaches and techniques in play.
