This is a light version of the Cinematic Studio Brass library. The library features a brass section as a combination of solo and ensemble instruments. The instruments are divided as solo trumpet, two trumpets, solo french horn, four french horns, solo trombone, two trombones, bass trombone and tuba. The instruments sound regal and epic, and the dynamics range from a warm mellow tone, to a loud, epic tone. The amount of articulations is good and the room ambience of the library is balanced and controllable. Like the other counterparts from this series, the legato is really smooth and expressive. The engine provides two speeds for a variety of transitions. Though it has a learning curve, the results are great. Also the libraries from this series blend well together because they were recorded in the same room. The library is quite versatile and can work in both softer and epic contexts. Overall, a great library with a good list of features and great legatos!
Following changes were made to the library:
1. The “Mix” and “Room” mic sample groups were removed. The default Mix isn’t that great and the Room mic position doesn’t add too much value to the library, and can be easily replaced by a reverb. The included “Close” and “Main” mic positions allow for a great deal of flexibility while preserving the sound of the hall the brass was recorded in as well.
2. The samples in the original release were in 24-bit 48kHz format. The samples were converted to 16-bit 48kHz and repacked into NKX containers. A null test results in a peak of -85dB, which won’t be audible at all. Also, after quite some testing, no issues were found with noise floor build-up when playing lots of notes. The conversion process takes the size down to 7.07GB from the original 33.9GB, which is a 79% reduction!
However, one of the unfortunate results of the changes is that the Ensemble patch is no longer functional, and there are no real workarounds to solve this issue.
NOTE: Kontakt v5.8.0 or higher is required. This library does not work with legit full version of Kontakt and k’d Kontakt is necessary to use this library.
